Work out, build a happier brain!

Outdoor exercise can be extra effective at improving mood!

Many older adults find that their once-bright mood diminishes with age.

Please take note: Pharmaceutical drugs need not be your first resort!

Working out builds body and mind.

Regular exercise helps increase the number of nerve cells (neurons) in your brain and boosts brain chemicals that can improve your focus and your outlook on life. Train regularly and you’ll:

  • bump up your gusto
  • boost your competitive edge (I’m not talking about your 5K speed, but your ability to focus and deliver at whatever work you do!)
  • ease your stress
  • put a smile on your face
  • enhance your self-esteem and a “can do” attitude

Whine Alert!

Listen closely to yourself. Are you complaining more than you used to? About people in the grocery store? Drivers on the highway?

How can life be enjoyable if you’re always annoyed?

Be honest when you assess yourself. Consider the older adults you know. Do they frequently complain? Are they often suspicious of others? Fearful? Pessimistic?

Some of that is biochemical. But to some degree, it’s a matter of getting into bad habits.

It’s never good when you don’t like what’s coming out of your mouth.

You’ve got many more years on the planet.  Guard your optimism. Check your whine.

  1. Hi there-
Great site. Really well done and organized.

I went to subscribe but it doesn’t give me the option to go through AOL.

I use Google as my primary search engine, but my email comes through AOL.

    Thanks,
    Rachel

  2. Thanks, Rachel! I appreciate your remarks and so nice to be in touch with you again!
