You can’t know it ALL
I am a big believer in finding experts you can trust.
Because, really, who has time to be a nutrition expert? Or an exercise expert? Unless you do it for a living.
My list of health experts is actually substantial. I have quite a library of books by experts on brain health, heart health, cancer, anti-aging therapies and detoxification–to name a few. I get these experts’ newsletters, subscribe to their sites, visit their forums, pick up their latest books.
My “go-to” expert on women’s health
But I have learned the most–and continue to rely on nutrition advice from–Ann Louise Gittelman, PhD, author of more than 30 books on diet and health, including The Fat Flush Plan, Fat Flush for Life, The Gut Flush Plan and Before the Change.
To some, reading about diet may seem frivolous, even embarassing–as if you were picking up a supermarket tabloid championing yet another celebrity weight-loss diet.
But nutrition guidance overlaps all other health issues. Fending off dementia, cardiovascular disease, cancer or osteoporosis so often comes down to nutrition. What are you putting in your mouth, and what is it doing to you?
Even those conditions we come to tolerate–such as low energy, stomach distention and joint pain–are more than delibitating. They’re often the early warning signs of chronic disease.
If eliminating dairy or wheat can ease your problems, wouldn’t you want to know that? If ensuring you’re getting enough omega-3 fats in your diet can improve the quality of your life, wouldn’t you want to find out about that?
That’s why it’s important to be ”up” on nutrition! Because it so profoundly affects your quality of life. Whether you have energy or you drag. Whether you are upbeat or angry. Whether you are short-tempered and yell a lot–or you don’t.
It makes a huge difference on all those who share your life, too, no?
But, like I said, you can’t know everything.
That’s why I like having experts I can turn to. They may not have the ”right” answer 100% of the time, but they certainly do better than I could on my own! Because they have years of education and training. Plus, they are doing it round the clock. Way better than my nightly forays into health matters that concern me or my clients.
What I really like about Dr. Ann Louise
Two things stand out.
(1) Dr. AnnLouise is incredibly knowledgeable about nutrition. I cannot overstate this.
(2) Dr. Ann Louise is especially well-versed on the nutrition needs of women over 40.
Many of the health experts I rely upon are men. And I am grateful for their work and their advice, which I heed.
But I like having someone who knows firsthand the hormonal storms that are visited upon women. They are substantial! And who understands the common health issues that women confront.
Plus, Dr. Ann Louise walks the walk. Just look at her. She is slender and her skin is luminous–a walking advertisement for the healthy lifestyle advice she is able to share.
Exercise goes hand-in-hand with healthy eating.
Like I’ve always said–I can exercise 6 days a week. If my diet’s not “on,” I’m not going to see a difference!
